VISTA, CALIFORNIA
JULY 1, 1998
The volunteers at the municipal court are a group of citizens dedicated to contributing part of their precious time to assist court employees in serving their fellow citizens. As volunteers they serve in many ways to make the court more efficient and in doing so help to conserve taxpayer dollars.
The following are a few of the tasks performed by volunteers:
-
Staffing the lobby information desk
-
Assisting with morning check-in for arraignments
-
Purging expired warrant files from the JURIS system
-
Recycling confidential envelopes for re-use
-
Assisting court services with copying
-
Transferring cases to and from courtrooms for clerks
-
Splitting computer dockets for clerks
In addition the volunteer group provides docent guides for the new Positive Impact Program ( PIP ) for the fourth and fifth grade students in the Oceanside schools. The PIP is designed to introduce the students to the criminal justice system early enough to impress them with the consequences of law breaking but also the alert them to the many career opportunities available.
There are still openings in the volunteer staff so anyone interested may pick-up an application at the information desk in the lobby of the Vista Courthouse or contact:
