San Diego County has selected Northrop Grumman Information Technology (NGIT) as their outsourcing contractor for Information Technology (IT) and telecommunications. The County first outsourced their IT and telecommunications in 1999 to the Pennant Alliance, which was led by Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). In 2005, the County initiated a competitive bid process to determine whether they should change contractors at the end of the seven-year contract (ending in December 2006). At the end of that process, the new contract was awarded to NGIT.
Transition to the new contractor occurred in five distinct phases: Help Desk, Applications, Desktop, Network and Data Center. NGIT has over 300 people supporting the County’s IT and telecommunications. In addition to many people located in San Diego, the team also manages two remote Data Centers and one Help Desk facility.
NGIT is working with various sub-contractors to leverage specific strengths in different areas. Their sub-contractors include: BearingPoint, EDS and SBC/AT&T.
