The Plating Shop Project is an ongoing outreach effort by the County of San Diego to improve compliance through education. This project received the 2005 Excellence in Environmental Health Award from the California Conference of Directors of Environmental Health.

In an effort to assist small metal plating facilities within San Diego County in improving compliance with the hazardous materials and hazardous waste regulatory requirements, HMD developed a Plating Shop Manual in November of 2004. Since then, the manual has been distributed to all workshop attendees and the local plating shops, as well as the regulatory agencies from other counties that have requested copies of the manual for training the plating shops in their jurisdictions.

Note: The November 2007 version of the Plating Shop Compliance Manual posted here contains some formatting and editing changes made to the earlier versions distributed at the workshops.
