Helicopter Applying Mosquito Larvicides

The Vector Control Program has been conducting monthly aerial mosquito larvicide applications to difficult-to-access areas that are known for mosquito breeding.

The larvicides used by the Vector Control Program act specifically on mosquito larvae and will not harm other wildlife.  Larvicides are a mixture of 2 parts VectoLex (Bacillus sphaericus) to 1 part AquaBac (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis). They are applied by a helicopter weeks to the vegetation in the water bodies.  Both of the larvicides listed above are made from bacteria that only affect mosquito larvae.  They kill the larvae before they can develop into biting adults.
