In 2002 the Redevelopment Agency of the City of San Diego (the RDA) initiated the North Park Renaissance Redevelopment Project by requesting that the State Site Designation Committee designate the County of San Diego Department of Environmental Health (County DEH) as the Administering Agency to oversee the Site Investigation and Remedial Action for the redevelopment.
Since 2003, the County DEH has cooperated with the RDA to identify and to clean up the environmental contamination associated with past industrial practices in the area. To date, an estimated 14,909 cubic yards of contaminated soil has been mitigated throughout the redevelopment area.
This redevelopment project is generally bounded by El Cajon Boulevard, Mead Avenue, 30th Street and Kansas Street, in the city of San Diego.
