The Department of Planning and Land Use has received numerous comments regarding the renewal fee for the County’s CEQA Consultant List. As a result, the Department is re-evaluating the renewal application fee as part of the comprehensive County Fee Ordinance update scheduled to be considered the Board of Supervisors in the winter of 2012.
How does this affect your standing on the consultant list and the status of your application?
- Your standing on County of San Diego CEQA Consultant Lists will remain in effect until completion of the renewal application process, which is anticipated to be completed by the fall of this year.
- The Department will refund any renewal fees already paid by consultants to date. Consultants applying for renewal will need to pay the renewal fee that is in effect once the comprehensive County Fee Ordinance update is completed this summer.
- The Department will provide notice to the renewing Consultants of the new fee and deadline for renewal applications. The effective date will be sometime this the summer, likely July or early August.

Applications for placement on CEQA consultant lists are accepted on an open enrollment basis. Consultant lists are reestablished at a minimum of every four years, at which time all listed consultants are required to submit a renewal application. If a consultant list reestablishment occurs within six months of your placement on a consultant list, you will not be required to apply for renewal. The schedule for list reestablishment is listed in the RenewalApplication Requirements. Payment of a consultant application fee is required with both new and renewal applications. The fee is currently $420 in accordance with the County Fee Schedule.
