North Segment

Valley Center Road North photo

The improvements for the north segment consist of widening and reconstructing 3.7 miles of Valley Center Road to modified major road standards, with a transition at Cole Grade Road . Primary section will be 76 feet roadway on 96 feet right-of-way with 14-foot striped median and 6-foot bike lanes. In Country Town areas, where there are sidewalks now, there will be concrete sidewalks and the pavement width will be reduced to 72 feet.  The traffic lanes will be 12 feet outside and 11 feet inside through town.  Overhead utility lines will be relocated underground through town.

During construction, one side of the road will be closed for widening and the other side used as detour with two lanes as required for two-way traffic. This will be repeated for the widening the other side of the road. Temporary delays due to flagging operations are expected.

This project is needed to improve the capacity of this segment of road. It will also complete another segment of the Bicycle Circulation Element.

Estimated completion
Winter 2009 (north)

Cost
