McClellan-Palomar Airport Water Quality Basin: Outreach

Outreach Efforts Help Increase Community Awareness for Water Quality
As a component of the project, efforts are being made to help spread community awareness of water quality throughout the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Watershed. This includes information on how projects such as this one can help remove pollutants within storm water runoff prior to entering the downstream watershed.

Two information kiosks are being developed in coordination with the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation that will provide information about detention basins, pollutants to waterways, and the long-term benefits of this project.

Presentations have been made to several public groups addressing the project goals, construction, design, and long-term benefits of the project. These have included the Palomar Airport Advisory Committee (PAAC), the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation (AHLF), and the Carlsbad Watershed Network (CWN).

The ongoing outreach efforts will also utilize the Watershed Stewards Program. Specifically, volunteer groups will continue the bioassessment monitoring within the downstream waterways (discussed in more detail on the “Effectiveness Assessment” section of this website).

Additional outreach components have included press releases to the media, and the creation of this website.
