Carpet cleaningWastes generated from carpet and drape cleaning activities are among the many common stormwater pollutants that can degrade water quality.  Carpet, drape, and upholstery cleaning activities generate a variety of wastes.  Rinse water containing soap and other cleaners contain phosphorus that fertilize aquatic algae which can degrade water quality.  It is illegal to dispose of wash water containing pollutants to the storm drain system!

Your Regulatory Requirements - County of San Diego, Stormwater Ordinance

What can I do?
Use Best Management Practices (BMPs)!
BMPs are techniques or controls used to prevent or reduce the discharge of pollutants, such as soaps and other cleaners, into the stormwater conveyance system also known as the storm drain system.
