Solvents and degreasers are among the many common stormwater pollutants that can degrade water quality. Stormwater runoff containing these compounds have been found in local waterways. Organics such as engine degreasers, cleaners, and other solvents can degrade water quality and kill aquatic life.

BMPs are techniques or controls used to prevent or reduce the discharge of pollutants, such as solvents and degreasers, into the stormwater conveyance system also known as the storm drain system.
