Mental Health

For more information send us an email or call toll-free 1-800-510-2020.

Mental health issues impact people of all ages. Aging & Independence Services provides crisis assessment and assistance, plus information about mental health concerns.

 Senior Mental Health Team

The Senior Mental Health Team provides a crisis assessment and assistance for persons age 60 and older with mental health issues.

Despair: Feeling extreme discouragement, dejection or depression.

Aging and Alone

Some of our community's seniors are living lives of lonely desperation. Whether related to grief, depression, paranoia, or some other mental illness, the pain is like being lost. Family members and friends may feel helpless.

Signs of Needing Aid

  • Sudden change in behavior or functioning.
  • Sudden confusion, disorientation, memory loss.
  • Constant negative and/or fearful thoughts.
  • An inability to consistently provide for his/her own food, clothing or shelter.
  • Abusing alcohol or prescription drugs.
  • Expressing a sincere wish to die. Having a suicidal plan in mind.

If needed, the social workers and nurses also educate clients and family members about mental health concerns.

The Senior Team members create a plan with the client and any significant others to keep that elder safe and as independent as possible.

One common goal is to prevent the need for hospitalization or long-term placement out of the home.

Information Is Kept Confidential

All information provided by the elder and family members is confidential and can be released only with written permission or by court order.

How Are Referrals Made?

Anyone can make a referral to the Senior Teams, not just health professionals. For any life-threatening situation, always call 911 first.

Senior Team members are only available in certain areas of the county.  The AIS Call Center can provide referrals for services in areas not served by a Senior Team.
