Conservatorship is a service provided by court order to help persons gravely disabled by mental illness, who are unable to meet their own food, clothing and shelter needs. The Public Conservator's Office also screens, processes, and investigates petitions for court ordered psychiatric evaluations for individuals with mental illness who refuse voluntary psychiatric treatment and are either a danger to self, a danger to others, or gravely disabled.
