Purpose

The Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP) provides medical, nutritional, perinatal education and psychosocial support to pregnant women.  CPSP services are available from the very beginning of pregnancy until 60 days after the baby is born.

Goals of the program

  • To decrease the incidence of low birthweight in infants
  • To improve the outcome of every pregnancy
  • To give every baby a healthy start in life
  • To lower health care costs by preventing catastrophic and chronic illness in infants and children

About Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program

Services

CPSP services in California are paid for by Medi-Cal and free to pregnant women who are eligible for Medi-Cal.  Any pregnant woman living in California can apply for Medi-Cal.

CPSP services include:

  • Prenatal care and individual case coordination
  • Education on eating healthy
  • Prenatal vitamins
  • Childbirth education
  • Help with social or emotional problems
  • Help with breastfeeding and newborn care
  • Referrals to Woman, Infants and Children (WIC) Supplemental Nutrition Program, genetic screening, dental care, family planning and pediatric care
