|
- To take a leadership role in identifying systemic changes to better address the needs of children, youth and families;
- To inspect all publicly administered facilities housing juveniles;
- To inquire into the non-confidential aspects of the administration of group homes receiving placement by the Juvenile Court in the county in which the Commission serves;
- To make recommendations to any person charged with the administration of any provision of the Juvenile Court law where, after investigation, the Commission has concluded such changes will be beneficial;
- To annually inspect the County's law enforcement facilities that contain a lockup which, in the preceding year, was used for the secure/non-secure detention of any minor;
- To investigate high profile cases which have been elevated to the Commission's attention;
- To issue reports with findings and recommendations of all Commission inspections and inquiries;
- To observe court proceedings in Juvenile Court;
- Review all appropriate critical incidents in both Juvenile Probation and Child Protective Services involving wards and dependent children;
- To assist in the appointment of the Probation officer
(Chief Probation officer).
