OverDrive is San Diego County Library's new provider of downloadable audio books.

How do I get started?

Will the Overdrive collection of downloadable audio books get larger?

Yes. SDCL continues to purchase additional downloadable titles from Overdrive to increase the collection.

Why do I have to place a request for a downloadable title?

Whenever possible, SDCL purchases downloadable books from publishers that permit unlimited downloads (i.e. titles are always available for download). Most publishers, however, only sell their downloadable titles by the copy (the way physical books are sold). SDCL monitors the number of customer requests for downloadable audiobook titles as compared to the number of copies for downloading, so that additional copies of titles can be purchased as needed.

What types of titles are being purchased for this new downloadable audio book collection?

With SDCL's new downloadable audio book vendor, SDCL is able to specifically select the titles it would like to purchase and add to the downloadable audiobook collection. This gives SDCL the opportunity to add popularly requested titles by its customers. For this reason, too, customers are able to make suggestions for new titles by using SDCL's online Title Suggestion Form.

Can I download audiobooks to my iPod?

Yes, certain audiobook titles can be transferred to an iPod.
