Vista Library Reaches One Million

The Vista Branch of the San Diego County Library recently celebrated the accomplishment of reaching one million checkouts in the 2013-2014 fiscal year. The library ended the year with 1,003,394 checkouts of books, DVDs and CDs.

The event took place on Friday, July 11 and approximately 750 people attended for refreshments, tacos, and of course, to watch as five Vista Library staff members, together with Library Director Jose Aponte, publicly received Mohawks as a result of reaching the year-long goal.

"We want our community to be well-informed and we hope this campaign will encourage people to read and bring attention to the great resources available through San Diego County Library," says Librarian Kris Jorgenson about the event.

Director Aponte adds, "At the end of the day it's a celebration, and we all think that we should celebrate more."

 Digital Magazine Subscriptions
SDCL is partnering with Zinio, the largest digital magazine service, to bring you current magazines available for downloading with no holds, checkout periods, or limit. Any active patron with a library card will be able to check out magazines from the collection.
Publish Your Own eBook Through SELF-e
SDCL is partnering with Library Journal and Biblioboard to beta test a service for self-published authors called "SELF-e." The service allows authors to submit their ebooks to Library Journal, who will then review submitted work and create a curated database of higher quality titles. If your work is not selected to be a part of the Library Journal collection, it may still be made available to the local community through SDCL branches.

This is a marketing and discovery service aimed at helping authors build an audience of readers. There is no fee to participate.

Customers can access the submission form as well as a variety of resources at: http://www.sdcl.org/local-authors.html or by clicking on the link on our website under "What's Happening."
