Background:
|
The Student Worker Program is a partnership between the County of San Diego, the Office of Emergency Services (OES), and various universities. The program provides the opportunity for students to gain valuable experience generally required by current employers. The OES provides both paid and unpaid opportunities for students from the various learning institutions, including high schools, technical institutes, vocational colleges, and universities within the County to work and become familiar with:
| • | The concept of public service |
| • | The functions, programs and operations of federal, state and local governments |
| • | Undergraduate career work experience |
| • | Additional career knowledge and work experience for graduate students during the course of their studies |
The overall OES Student Worker Program consists of challenging and meaningful work assignments, student mentoring, and increased responsibilities during the course of each internship. Depending on each individual student circumstance, internships are either paid, unpaid (experience) or for credits accepted at their university department.
