The County of San Diego Parks and Recreation (DPR) mission is: “To provide opportunities for high quality parks and recreation experiences and to preserve regionally significant natural and cultural resources.”
DPR recognizes geocaching – a treasure hunt that utilizes Global Positioning System (GPS) and the internet to find caches – as a recreational experience. However, not all areas of County parks/preserves are suitable for geocaching due to regionally significant and cultural resources. A Geocaching Policy was developed to facilitate responsible geocaching such that DPR can meet its mission.
Currently, only one County Park is open to geocaching, Goodan Ranch/Sycamore Canyon Preserve
If you would like to place a cache in Goodan/Sycamore:
1) Please read our Geocaching Policy.
2) Fill out the Geocache Registration Form and save it.
3) Email the form to Maureen.abare-laudy@sdcounty.ca.gov as an attachment.
4) An approved/denied form will be emailed to you within 7 days.
5) Attach the approved form with your request to post coordinates to the geocache webmaster. Geocache webmasters will not post coordinates in County Parks without an approved registration form.
Please note
1) County parks is not responsible for the caches. If you have information about an inappropriately placed cache or a cache that contains items of concern, please contact the park ranger at Maureen.abare-laudy@sdcounty.ca.gov or (858) 513-4737.
2) It is your responsibility to know County Park rules and be adequately prepared for the outdoors with plenty of water, hat, sunscreen and sturdy walking boots.
