This park offers more than 1,800 acres of diverse habitats that enhance visitors' experiences -- from dense riparian forests along the Tijuana River to coastal maritime sage scrub on top of Spooner's Mesa. You're welcome to experience the extensive system of trails that link the many habitats in this fertile river valley. You can hike or ride a horse along miles of trails, or bring your binoculars to see birds in one of the best birdwatching spots in the county.
Horse trails connect the Equestrian Staging Area to the Pacific Ocean. Parking is due west from the Visitor Center at 2310 Hollister Street. Pullouts for trailers, corrals, and picnic tables are all available to help you stage your ride.
See birds and butterflies traveling the Pacific Flyway in the new Bird and Butterfly Garden, also west of the Visitor Center. Walking paths meander around plants specially chosen to attract these winged creatures. Check off your bird list while you eat your lunch at one of the picnic tables in the park.
Another popular feature of the park is the Community Garden at Hollister and Sunset, which provides area residents a place to exercise their green thumbs.
One of the County's newest sports facilities features five ball fields and a multi-use open turf area.
The Tijuana River Valley Regional Park is home to two dozen sensitive species, and more than 340 bird species have been spotted here -- more than two-thirds of the total species seen in the entire county! Even more natural riches can be found adjacent to the park, in the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve and Border Field State Park.
Maps and area information are located at the park ranger office at 2721 Monument Road. The phone number is 619-428-2946.
