   Program Guide

The spectacular rocky face of El Cajon Mountain rises high over this park, dominating the other mountains that encircle this valley. El Monte is one of the original County parks and one of the most popular. There are plenty of recreational opportunities in this 98-acre park, including ball fields and play areas. Seven reservable picnic areas make every size picnic easy to arrange.

Here are the answers to the most commonly asked questions about picnic reservations:

When do I need a picnic reservation?
If your group is 50 or more and you are planning to be here on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, or you desire to have an area just for your group (no minimum size).

You plan to have an amplified musical activity. Allowed in Areas 1, 4, and 7 only. Electricity is provided only with a reservation.

Can I make a reservation for a holiday?
Yes, with the exception of Christmas day, when the park is closed.

How far in advance can I make a reservation?
One year in advance. Reservations are taken by the Parks and Recreation Department Reservation Desk. Call 858-565-3600 (toll free 1-877-565-3600) or come into the reservation center a minimum of one day prior to the intended picnic date. If you are planning to make a reservation in person, we suggest that you call first or go to this page to see if the reservation date that you are interested in is open. Full payment of fees is due at the time the reservations is made plus a $5.00 reservation fee. Reservations can also be made at the park with the Park Ranger.

If I cancel, can I get a refund?
The Reservation Center must be contacted a minimum of 30 days before the original picnic date for either a date change or cancellation request. There is a $5.00 non-refundable charge for reservation changes and a $25.00 charge for reservation cancellations up to 30 days before the picnic date. All fees will be forfeited when a reservation is cancelled with less than 30 days before the picnic date.

Can someone show me the area I am reserving?
Yes. Park rangers will explain the park rules and show you your site.

If I decide to make a reservation, how much will it cost? What is the maximum number of people for my area?

Area 1 -- $400/350 people.
Area 2 -- $250/100-250 people.
Area 3 -- $250/100-250 people.
Area 4 -- $400/400 people
Area 5 -- $150/50-100 people.
Area 6 -- $150/50-100 people.
Area 7 -- $400/250 people.

Are there fees for caterers and extras?
Yes. You will need to check with the Reservation Staff for final determination of these charges. These fees are also due at the time the reservation is made.

What else should I know?
$3.00 per vehicle for parking is collected at the entry gate.

What are the park hours?
Daily 9:30 - sunset. Closed Christmas Day.

Reservations can be made by calling 858-565-3600 (toll free 1-877-565-3600). You can reach us Monday-Friday: 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Reservations can also be made at the park with the Park Ranger.
