The four reservable picnic areas at this park are set among towering eucalyptus groves that characterize this part of the county. Only minutes from the ocean, this park is cooled by the sea breezes during warm summer months. A ball field, basketball court, play areas, and hiking trails are nearby for picnickers to enjoy. The lower area of the 125-park is devoted to nonreservable family picnics.
Here are the answers to the most commonly asked questions about picnic reservations:
When do I need a picnic reservation?
If your group is 30 or more and you are planning to be here on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, or you desire to have an area just for your group (no minimum size).
You plan to have an amplified musical activity. Allowed in Area 1 only. Electricity is provided only with a reservation.
Can I make a reservation for a holiday?
Yes, with the exception of Christmas day, when the park is closed.
How far in advance can I make a reservation?
One year in advance. Reservations are taken by the Parks and Recreation Department Reservation Desk only. Call 858-565-3600 (toll free 1-877-565-3600) or come into the reservation center a minimum of one day prior to the intended picnic date. If you are planning to make a reservation in person, we suggest that you call first or go to this page to see if the reservation date that you are interested in is open. Full payment of fees is due at the time the reservations is made plus a $5.00 reservation fee. Reservations can be made at the park by the Park Ranger.
If I cancel, can I get a refund?
The Reservation Center must be contacted a minimum of 30 days before the original picnic date for either a date change or cancellation request. There is a $5.00 charge for reservation changes and a $25.00 charge for reservation cancellations up to 30 days before the picnic date. All fees will be forfeited when a reservation is cancelled with less than 30 days before the picnic date. The $5.00 reservation fee is non-refundable.
Can someone show me the area I am reserving?
Yes. Park rangers will explain the park rules and show you your site.
If I decide to make a reservation, how much will it cost? What is the maximum number of people for my area?
Area 1: - $400 for up to 500 people: Covered dance ramada and serving counter. Electricity, 3 individual bbqs.
Area 2: -$150 for up to 100 people: two bbq grills.
Area 3: - $250 for up to 200 people: Covered serving counter, three bbq grills.
Area 4: - $150 for up to 75 people: 2 individual bbqs. Limited parking nearby.
Pond Area: $75 for up to 75 people; one bbq grill.
Wedding gazebo: - $200 for three-hour wedding ceremony, maximum of 200 people. No receptions allowed.
Are there fees for caterers and extras?
Yes. You will need to check with the Reservation Staff for final determination of these charges. These fees are also due at the time the reservation is made.
What else should I know?
$3.00 per vehicle for parking is collected at the entry gate.
Lower park (El Camino Real entrance) is not reservable -- first come, first served.
What are the park hours?
Daily 9:30 - sunset. Closed Christmas Day.
