The Property Disposal section of the Department of Purchasing and Contracting manages the disposition of County surplus personal property.  If such property is not reused by another County department, the property must be disposed of through auction, competitive sealed bid, or recycling.

LIVE AUCTIONS
The County has contracted with a professional auction company to conduct live auctions (mostly vehicles) on our behalf:

TNT Auction Company , Salt Lake City, UT.  (801) 519-0123

INTERNET AUCTIONS
Some surplus property items are auctioned through the Public Surplus site.   The County is primarily targeting local bidders, as these items will not be packaged or shipped -- they must be picked up by the buyer or buyer's representative.

SEALED BIDS (silent auctions)
The County disposes of bulk surplus property through competitive (silent) Sealed Bids.  Typical items include office furniture and supplies, scrap metal, bicycles, etc.  To be notified of upcoming sealed bids, send us an email or call (858) 565-5000, and ask to be added to our email notification list.  All property sold through the sealed bid process is sold on an as-is, where-is basis.

OTHER COUNTY AUCTIONS
The Public Administrator conducts live auctions for personal and real property from estates.

The County Treasurer/Tax Collector auctions tax-defaulted properties within San Diego County through both live auctions and internet auctions.
