The San Diego Capital Collaborative (“SDCC”) is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit, tax-exempt umbrella organization chartered by the Reinvestment Task Force. SDCC will sponsor a Family of Investment Funds targeting low and moderate-income neighborhoods. The initial fund is a $60 million for-profit Smart Growth Fund, focused on urban emerging markets to accomplish double bottom line, economic and social equity impact, goals. SDCC will ensure that resources remain focused on the low and moderate-income communities to which they are targeted while simultaneously supporting the Fund Managers. It will also measure and report publicly on the success of the Funds in producing returns for the two bottom lines. Through its collaboration with the developers, public agencies, and community groups, it will work to originate model deal flow, as well as, advocate for supportive public policies. The SDCC’s activities will be supported by an investment of resources that enables it to become self-sustaining with a decreasing dependence on public sector or grant funding over time. SDCC will ensure the Smart Growth Fund is designed to engage the most disadvantaged communities of the City and County of San Diego to capitalize their underutilized workforce, land, and resources in ways that create wealth for residents and contribute to continued regional health and well being. Thus, these investments are expected to meet the community reinvestment obligations of select investors.
