The Department of Housing and Urban Development – VA Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program provides assistance to homeless veterans by combining HUD Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) rental assistance with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) at its medical centers and in the community. Ongoing VA case management, health, and other supportive services are made available to homeless veterans through the Veterans Affairs Medical Center supportive services. The HUD-VASH program is administered in accordance with the HCV tenant-based rental assistance regulations. The Housing Authority of the County of San Diego (HACSD) received its first award of 105 HUD-VASH vouchers in September 2009. The HACSD has received additional vouchers in subsequent years and is now able provide rental assistance to more than 305 eligible veterans and their families.
